Dear New Member,
Welcome! Thank you for choosing the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA as your comprehensive family health and fitness center. We offer quality programming in a family environment and are pleased to have you as part of our YMCA community. As a new member, you are entitled to several complimentary services. The first is the initial fitness evaluation and exercise prescription session. During this one-hour appointment, staff will take baseline data such as resting heart rate, resting blood pressure, anthropometrics measurements (tape measurements and body fat) and personalized exercise plan and a means of measuring your progress. This may be done through a state of the art electronic scale that will print out a body profile of yourself.

The second one-hour appointment is a fitness orientation provided by the wellness staff. During this one-hour session your exercise prescription will be explained and carried out. We focus on all of the fitness components: muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular health and flexibility. At this time please feel free to ask us any questions you may have regarding the equipment.

If you lack motivation or knowledge to obtain your fitness goals, our certified personal trainers can help. Our trainers can provide you with the most effective, efficient and motivating workouts. Fitness Evaluation & Exercise Perscription

This appointment based fitness evaluation determines your current physical fitness level. This information is then used to set realistic goals and prescribe an exercise program based upon your needs. Free for members and $40 for non-members/program members.

Personal Training for Sport Conditioning

This is an appointment based personal training program that is designed to enhance to enhance the high school athlete’s athletic performace and conditioning. The sessions will focus on weight training, plyometrics, endurance training, and speed and agility drills. Appointment based, please call 570-823-2191 ext. 222 for more information and pricing for individual and group rates.

F.A.S.T. Program

Fit Adolescents Safety Training, or F.A.S.T., is an 8 week educational program designed to teach adolescents how to exercise safely. The program will focus on teaching adolescents basic exercise principles, including major muscle group, functions of each muscle group, proper use of exercise equipment, as well as proper fitness club etiquette.
