Parent-Child Level 1
6–24 months and one parent or guardian
This program offers activities based on the developmental abilities of the child. Parent learns how to positively and creatively encourage water skills through instruction and play as their child becomes more comfortable in the water.

24 months – 4 years and one parent or guardian
This program is designed for the children that are not quite ready (2- 4) to leave the security of being with an adult in the water or not old enough to be in the pre-school program but are ready to begin working on actual swimming skills.

Pre-Pike Class
2 ½ to 4 years old
This program is for children who have successfully completed the Parent/Child level 2 class (minimum age of 2 ½ required) or are pre-school age and have never been in a swim class. This class offers a small class ratio of 1 instructor to 4 participants. Parent must remain on the pool deck during the 30-minute instructional period of the class. The parent/guardian gets in the water and swim with child for last 15 minutes to reinforce skills covered by the instructor during class. This class bridges the Parent/Child level 2 class to the Preschool program.

Pre-school Instructional Swimming Classes
3-5 years old
Preschool swim lessons focus on basic swim skills and pool safety. Children move through progressive levels as they increase swimming distance, endurance and ability with each level. These 45-minute swim lessons are taught by caring YMCA swim instructors.

Tumble and swim
3-6 years old
The tumbling class consists of basic gymnastics, which teaches them forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, beam skills, springboard exercises, and uneven bar elements. The children then attend a pike/eel swim class (beginner I/beginner II), which includes songs, floating front and back, kicking, arm reaching skills and jumping skills. (Register for program under both aquatics & gymnastics)

Youth Instructional Swimming Classes
6-14 years old
The YMCA youth swim program is a six level progression program with each level building upon the skills learned and mastered in the preceding levels. At every level, participants are involved in instruction related to the following five components: personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth and rescue.

COMPETITIVE SWIMMING
Intro to Dolphin Swim Team
September 13-September 29
Dolphin Head Coach Meredith Selden and Suzanne Youngblood, dolphins’ assistant coach and former Kings College swim coach, will be running a three-week introduction to swim team for the new competitive swimmer or the returning swimmer looking to get an early start practicing. Refinement of the competitive strokes (freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke) and is the focus of this swim clinic.

Participants of the Intro to Dolphin Swim Team program will receive a $20 discount if registered for Swim Team by October 18.
DOLPHIN SWIM TEAM
Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Swim Team
October 4, 2010-February/March 2011
Free Trial for new members (first week of practice)
Open to all youth 5-19 years of age, who are able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) with a recognizable swimming stroke. Season will run October through February/March with the swim meets beginning in late November; most of the meets are held on Saturday’s. The Wilkes-Barre YMCA Dolphins is a fully sanctioned YMCA Swimming Program that participates in the Penn-Del swimming league “B” North Division, YMCA invitational meets, and for those who qualify, YMCA Districts, States and Nationals. The YMCA’s philosophy is “Everybody swim, everybody wins.” Our program is designed to teach the fundamentals of competitive swimming. We strive to develop a sense of team spirit, sportsmanship, fair play and fitness habits that will last a lifetime. All swimmers must have a Wilkes-Barre YMCA membership in order to participate; this is a National YMCA guideline.
Practice for ALL team members begins on October 4, 2010, coaches will evaluate swimmers and will put them into Groups (attend for age listed below until group is determined).
Mini Dolphins (ages 5-8)-M/W/F-6:00-7:00pm
This practice will primarily consist of 8 & under swimmers and new competitive swimmers.
Spinners (ages 9-10)-M/W/F-6:30-8:00pm & TU/TH-7:30-8:30pm (Dry land conditioning 6:30-7:30pm beginning November)
Orcas (ages 11-19)-M/W/F-6;30-8:30pm & TU/TH-7:30-8:30pm (Dry land conditioning 6:30-7:30pm beginning November).
ADULT PROGRAMS
Masters Swim
Fall Session I Sept. & Oct.; Fall Session II Nov. & Dec.)
Love to swim? Want to improve your stroke? Come and get in shape with a fun swim class. Join others who share a love of swimming at our Masters Swim Class. A swim coach will make up a workout and be on deck to help with stroke development and technique. This is a great class for a tri-athlete or someone looking to get in shape.

Adult/High School Swim Lessons (Level 1)
This class is for non-swimmers and or beginners, who are only comfortable in the shallow water. The goal is to learn the basics of swimming and to help overcome fears of the water.

Adult/High School Swim Lessons (Level 2)
This class is for adults who can already swim in both the shallow and deep water, but would like to learn the proper technique for the strokes, learn additional strokes, improve endurance and become more proficient in the water.

CERTIFICATION COURSES
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course
The purpose of this course is to teach Lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Upon successful completion of all skills, written & practical tests, participants will receive a Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR for the professional rescuer/AED certifications.
- Minimum age 15 on or before the final scheduled class
- Pass pre-course swim test: 300 yds continuous swim (100 yds front crawl using rhythmic breathing, 100 yds breaststroke, 100 yds either front crawl or breaststroke), surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface and swim 20 yards with legs only in 1 minute 40 seconds.
- 100% class attendance and participation
- Pass both a water skills test and written exam
Fees: Members $185; Program Participants-$200
NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF $30 due at registration; balance due after pre-course test, which is held the first hour of the first class.

Please bring your pocket mask and current copy of your CPR for the Professional Rescuer card.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private Swim Lessons or Semi-Private Swim Lessons
All ages, abilities and levels welcome. Please contact the Aquatic Director to set up lessons. A set of four- (4) ½ hour lessons. Lessons are customized to the needs of the participant—(max. 2 people)
Private Lessons:
Family Member $65; Member $80; Program Participants $95
Semi-Private Lessons:
Family Member $52 per person; Member $64 per person;
Program Participants $80 per person (both participants must sign up at the same time)
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Aquatic Birthday Parties at the Y!
Have your child’s Birthday Party at the YMCA. The “Y” will provide a party coordinator and a gift for the birthday girl or boy. Parties are for two hours. **A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $50 is required to reserve package 1 or 2; $100 deposit for party 3.
Package 1- $90 (2 hour party)
The party includes 1 hour in the pool OR the gym & one hour in the party room. The first 12 children are included in the package price with each additional child being $5.00.
Package 2- $125 (2 ½ hr. party)
This package includes one hour in the party room, 30 minutes in the gym and 45 minutes in the pool. The first 12 children are included in the package price and each additional child is $5.00.
Package 3- SCUBA-$225 (Ages 8 & up)
This package includes an hour in the pool with a certified scuba diving instructor and an hour in the party room. Birthday child and friends will enjoy this safe unforgettable underwater adventure in SCUBA gear. Party is subject to availability of the scuba company. The first 12 children are included in the package price and each additional child is $15.00. (Party is a maximum of 20 children)
**A certified Lifeguard is always on duty.
**Adults are required to be in the water with children who cannot touch the bottom of the pool or who needs a floatation device.
Parties are available on Friday night or Saturday afternoons.

Water Fitness Classes
- *Water Fitness Pass is $42, unlimited classes for the month in which purchased (pass expires on the last day of the month purchased). Passes may be purchased at the front desk.
- Senior Water Fitness Pass is $27. Pass is valid for the month in which purchased.
- Price per class is $10.00, pay at front desk.

SPECIALITY PROGRAMS
Girl Scout and Boy Scout Badge Program
Bring your Troop to the YMCA to complete badge requirements directly related to the water. Program includes 1-hour instructional period with a trained instructor and a 30-minute free swim period. Please contact the Aquatic Director to set up a program. Program fee is $48 (minimum of 8 scouts) $4 each additional scout; for groups requiring more than 1 instructor there will be an additional $10 fee.
Pool Rentals for SPLASH Parties
Rent the YMCA pool. Contact the Aquatic Director to schedule your party. A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 is due at the time of booking.
** $75/Hour for half the pool (includes 1 lifeguard)
There will be an extra charge for additional lifeguards.
Full pool rentals: $275 for 2 hours + $5 per person.
SWIM LESSON REFUND/CREDIT POLICY
There are NO Refunds for any reason. Credits CAN be issued for illness ONLY, and must be accompanied by a physician’s note. These requests should be presented to the Aquatic Director. Thank You
IF A CLASS IS CANCELED BY THE YMCA…
If a class is canceled due to weather (THE YMCA DOES CLOSE OUR POOL FOR ELECTRICAL STORMS) or any other reason, a system credit will be issued for the cost of the class that was canceled. If a make-up class was scheduled, and a participant chooses not to attend, no make-ups, credits or refunds will be issued.
