Healthy Living Lifestyle at your YMCA

Meet our Nutritionist:
Welcome Clancy Cash Harrison M.S., R.D., L.D.N.!

Healthy Living Lifestyle was established by Clancy Clash Harrison to provide responsive and appropriate nutritional counseling with a relaxed and easy to understand approach.

Clancy received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Science Degree in Nutrition from the College of Saint Elizabeth. In 2007, Clancy completed her Dietetic Internship with the University of Delaware and became a licensed practitioner in June 2007. She has been working in community and preventative nutrition education for 8 years. She is a certified trainer in various evidence –based weight management programs.

Nutrition counseling and education is very individual. Clancy will work with you to develop your dietary and physical activity plan based on your medical history, food likes and dislikes, allergies, cultural beliefs, and budget.

Program Information:
The Nutrition Therapy Office is located in the Membership Office. For an appointment call 570-881-0683. Many insurance companies will reimburse for office consultations, call your insurance to confirm your reimbursement dollar amount for nutritional medical therapy. There are various Healthy Living packages available.

Healthy Living offers Individual Nutritional Consultation for Disease Management, Weight Loss Management, Sports Nutrition, and Pediatric Nutrition. As well as Disease Preventative Education such as Defensive Eating. In addition, Corporate Wellness is available to include, Evidence based Program, Corporate Challenges and Educational Presentations.
The program also offers a Computerized Diet and Exercise Analysis, Meal Planning and Grocery Tour.

Wilkes-Barre YMCA Duathlon

“To celebrate the spirit of civic cooperation, athletic competition and health and fitness awareness by organizing, implementing and perpetuating a Wilkes-Barre based and named Duathlon that brings together individuals of all ages, races, backgrounds and interests to participate in an enjoyable, high profile, fundraising event.”

The Wilkes-Barre Duathlon, a USAT sanctioned race, is a 3 mile run, 16 mile bike, and a 3 mile run through the city of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. (See the course map for details). The Wilkes-Barre Duathlon committees puts countless hours into this race to make sure each year it becomes bigger and better!

This year’s race, held on Father’s Day, June 15, 2008, will begin promptly at 7:30 AM on Public Square, Wilkes-Barre. Proceeds will benefit all youth programs held at the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. For more information call Nicky Pachucki 823-2191ext. 141 or go to www.wbduathlon.com.

May/June Employee of the Month

Joelle RoseCongratulations to our employee of the month, Joelle Rose. Joelle is our gymnastics director since 1999. During her time with the W-B YMCA, her teams and individual gymnasts have brought home many titles. To her credit, Joelle’s Teams have one National Championship (2005), and 3 State Titles (2003-06) Her young her ladies had 10 Individual State Titlist. You can also find her helping out with the large assortment of fundraisers that the Y holds.

Backyard Pools

The Wilkes-Barre Backyard Pools Program is designed to have a Certified Swimming Instructor come to a privately owned pool and teach children or adults how to swim. The instructor will come to your pool and teach swimming pool safety for 45 minutes. You are responsible for gathering students for the class and for following the guidelines set by the YMCA. Pool requirements: Temperature 82 °F, Pool chlorine around 2.0, and Pool pH 7.4-7.6. For more details pick up the form at the front desk or call Tamara Lutz at 823-2191 ext. 151.

Healthy Living will empower you to take charge of your lifer and feel in control of your life and feel in control of your weight and health. By eating the right foods and understanding your specific energy balance, you will have an amazing impact on your health. We will work with you to help you better understand you body and your daily needs. We can tailor a dietary and weight management program based on your medical history, current dietary practices, energy balance, and your anticipated goals.

If you have been diagnosed with a medical condition or would like to loose eight, we can offer you the resources to help you better understand what your body needs to be healthy.

Healthy Living Weight Management Program

HealthyLiving will help you establish a healthy approach to living better and lose weight permanently. If you are overweight, have high blood pressure, or high cholesterol this program is for you! Start the summer off healthy and join our class today. It is time to live a healthy life.

Floor Hockey Open House

he Wilkes-Barre YMCA is now giving the opportunity for kids ages 4 to 8 years old to learn and participate in floor hockey! FREE! Join us on Saturday, June 7 at the W-B YMCA! Meet TUX The Penguins Mascot!
Registration 10 – 11 a.m.

Introduction to Hockey 11 – 12 p.m.
Kids will be shown some basic skills and have some fun. This is open to anyone so don’t forget to bring a friend.

Kids Sport Craze!

FREE to YMCA Members! On these three Mondays kids ages 6-12 who attend will get the opportunity to learn and play a different sport. They will experience a variety of sports and activities which will give them the chance to find activities they enjoy . Sign up today.

Focus on the Kids

Programs designed for your children and the children of the Y.

Day Camp at Camp Kresge: One week sessions.
Week 1: 6/16 - 620, Week 2: 6/23 – 6/27, Week 3: 6/30 - 7/3, Week 4: 7/7 - 7/11, Week 5: 7/14 - 7/18, Week 6: 7/21 – 7/25
**please note, no day camp on 7/4- this week will be pro-rated

Nursery Hours are Changing Effective 6/2/08

Have your children taken care of in the nursery while you work out. Members have a maximum of 2 hours nursery service per child per day. Drop off service is also available for non-members at a cost of $4 per hour for a maximum of 4 hours per day. Ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Hours are now: Mon and Wed 8:30-1:30 p.m. and 4-7 p.m., Tues and Thurs 9:30-1:30 p.m. and 4-7 p.m., Fri 8:30- 1:30 p.m. Hours are subject to change.
