On Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA held the 24th Annual Bernie’s Memorial 3 Mile Walk/Run. This years race which was the third leg of the First Liberty Bank and Trust Triple Crown saw close to 500 participants.
Chris Wadas was the overall winner for the run with a time of 15:00. Second place overall for the Males was Chris Wasnetsky with a time of 15:10 & third place overall for the males was Dan Dragwa with a time of 15:57. Heidi Wolfsberger came in overall for the females with a time of 16:52, followed by Amy Rome with a time 18:42 & Hillary Adams in thrid with a time of 18:55.
For the walk Tom Cheffins came in as the overall winner with a time 29:43. Second & third place for the male overall were respectively, Mark Krokos, 34:21 & Terry Dougherty, 34:33. The female overall walk winner was the YMCA’s own, Joan Angeli with a time of 32:08. Second place female overall was Camille Jescavage, 33:31 & third place was Nita Williams, 33:33.
Overall Family Team in the Run was the Moulton Family & in the walk was the Hirthler family. Holy Redeemer came in overall for the High School Division & the Wilkes-Barre City Health Department Walking Program came in overall as the winner of the Corporate Cup.

The 25th Annual Bernie’s Memorial Race took place on Friday, July 4th, 2008. This year’s race was once again the third race in the Liberty Bank & Trust Triple Crown. The race had over 600 participants which included a 1/2 Kids Fun Run where all children 12 & under received a medal.
Kevin Borelli, 14:37 was the overall winner with Chris Wadas, 14:42 close behind in second place & Jeff Skwierz, 15:13 coming in third place male overall for the run. On the female side, Heidi Wolfsberger came in first overall with a time of 16:24. Second place overall female was captured by Amy Rome with a time of 18:20, third overall was Tori Posatko, 18:56.
The overall walk winner was Tom Cheffins, 30:33. Second male overall was Mark Krokos, 34:51 while Carl Eddy finished thrid place overall with a time of 35:14. The female overall walker was Deb Soltysiak with a time of 31:35. Joan Angeli, 32:17, came in second overall & Christine Snarski came in third with a time of 32:19.
Overall family run team winner was the Moulton Family and for the walk was the Holena/Yale Family. The High School Division went to the Dallas High School and the Corporate Cup went to Penn Miller.
Celebration Before the Race - Bernie’s Memorial Cocktail Party

Two days before the 25th Annual race, a cocktail party was held at Leggio’s in Wilkes-Barre Twp. Committee members, friends, families & sponsors saw the Mayor of Wilkes-Barre, Mayor Thomas Leighton give the widow of Bernie Hargadon, Mrs. Mary Jane Hargadon & daughter Mrs. Sara Micheals a proclimation that July 4th in Wilkes-Barre will be known as the July 4th Bernie’s Memorial 3 Mile Walk/Run day.
