Dolphin Swim Team

“Everybody swims, everybody wins.”

Open to all youth 5-18 years of age, who completed the Minnow level of the Progressive Swim Program (able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke and experience with breaststroke).  Season will run September through March with the swim meets beginning in December; most of the meets are held on Saturday.  We strive to develop a sense of team spirit, sportsmanship, fair play and fitness habits while teaching the fundamentals of competitive swimming that will last a lifetime. Wilkes-Barre YMCA membership in order to participate on the Dolphins Swim Team; this is a National YMCA guideline.  The Wilkes-Barre YMCA is a member of the Central Pennsylvania YMCA Swim League (CPYSL).  All practices will be held at the Mericle Pool, Monday through Friday 6pm-8:30pm

In order to qualify for Family Discount, all children must be registered at the same time. 

Instructional/Prep

This is a novice level typically for swimmers new to competitive swimming. The focus of this group is learning all four strokes in a fun learning environment. Recommended practice 2 times per week for one hour.  

White

This level will be working on stroke technique, starts, turns and finishes. These swimmers train for 25-50 yard events. Recommended practice 3 times per week for one hour. 

Blue

This level will be working on stroke technique, forming correct practice habits, using the pace clock, conditioning and endurance, and be introduced to longer swimming events. Recommended practice 4 times per week for one and a half hours. 

Juniors

This level will focus on endurance training which includes more practice time and dry land drills. Recommended practice time is 5 days per week for two hours. 

High School

If you’re a member of a High School team you may still participate with the YMCA Dolphins Team, you will swim in the Open age division if 15 years of age or older.  We offer Saturday meets and the opportunity for swimmers to attend YMCA District and National competitions, when meeting National YMCA requirements (swim in 3 YMCA meets & meet District qualifying times).
