Aquatic Summer Camps

Start planning now for a great summer in 2009

with Wilkes-Barre YMCA Aquatics! 

Here’s a sampling of what we did in 2008:

Learn to Swim Week

(2½  - 14years old)

All classes meet daily Monday - Friday and open to all who wish to enroll. Program is designed to meet the needs of both swimmers and non-swimmers teaching through the YMCA Progression Swimming and Safety Program. Early registration is recommended due to limited space. During the Pre-preschool Level, guardian/parent required to sit on the pool deck, all else may observe from the balcony.

Scuba Ranger Camp

(8-12 years old)

With Scuba Rangers, you can scuba dive in the pool with real diving equipment, play games under water and enjoy other fun stuff. Participants do not become Scuba certified; however, they will work their way through 5 Ranger levels and receive cool rewards for each level completed. Aftercare is available, free of charge, until 5:00pm. Call the Aquatic Director for more information. A week’s worth of lunches (hot dog or pizza, fruit, cookie and milk) may be included for an additional fee. Extra water and snacks are also available for purchase.

Smart Start Camp

(8-14 years old)

Take the week and learn what it takes to be a lifeguard. Practice some of the skills they have perfected, become CPR certified and receive your own workbook. Camp runs 9am-4pm with lunch included (snacks and extra water is additional cost). Before care provided 8-9am and aftercare provided until 5:00pm. (Required to be able to swim 25 yards freestyle, tread water and swim 10 feet underwater.)

Wet and Wild Camp

(8-15 years old)

Come and get wet as you participate in the Aquatic Day Camp Program. Each day you will participate in a variety of water activities. Program price includes transportation to and from the YMCA and entrance fees to all the activities listed below (alternate activities scheduled for rain days, except the rafting which can be done in the rain). Before care is provided starting at 8:00am and aftercare is provided ending at 5:30pm.

  • Boating (paddle boats, canoes and kayaks) at Camp Kresge in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. Learn basic strokes, water safety and how each boat works.
  • Camelbeach. Slide your way down the best water rides in the town. Wave pool, lazy river and wet and wild fun awaits you.
  • Whitewater Rafting on the Lehigh River
  • Splash Party. Learn about Scuba diving and test the equipment in the swimming pool and discover the underwater world. We will enjoy lunch at our own Cafe and enjoys games and activities at the YMCA or the local park.
  • Sno Mountain. Staying local, we will enjoy the water slides and rides all day.
