 Dodgeball Rules & Regulations

·        Referee fee of $8.00 must be paid prior to game each week. Play will not begin until referees are paid. If the fee is not paid by a certain team, that team will forfeit all 5 games.

·        Teams will consist of 6 players on the court at start time.

·        2 women must be on the court at the beginning of each game.

·        The minimum number of players required at game time to prevent forfeit is 4.

·        Three balls will be lined up on the mid-court line.

·        Each team must be lined up on their end line at the start of the game.

·        Each game is 8 minutes long or until no players are remaining.

·        The object of the game is to throw the ball at the opposing team and contact one or more of the opponents. ANY PERSON HIT BY A BALL ON THE FLY IS OUT OF THE GAME (deflections off the baskets, bleachers, wall or floor do not count). However, deflections off a teammate DO count.

·        At start whistle, upon running to mid-line, players cannot throw ball at an opponent until the ball is cleared behind the 10 foot green line.

·        Any player who steps over the mid-line, the throw will not count unless caught by opposing team.

·        The person throwing the ball is out if the ball is caught by an opposing player on the fly or the thrower intentionally hits an opposing player’s head. (If a player ducks or lowers their head and the ball then hits their head, the player is out. This is not considered a “head shot” because the ball was not aimed at the head.)

·        The thrower is not out if the ball is caught after deflecting off anything other than another player. If the ball does bounce off an opposing player, the only person out is the thrower.

·        If a player is holding a ball in an attempt to deflect other balls and he/she drops the ball while a throw is made, the player who dropped the ball is out. (A ball that contacts the floor is considered a dropped ball.)

·        Once a player is out he/she must immediately leave the playing area and stand/sit in the designated are on his/her team’s side.

·        During play, all players are confined to one half of the gym and MUST stay in bounds (black line). No hiding in the blue area or corners! One warning will be given before a player will be called out. If a player is hit by a ball in the “out of bounds” area, the thrower is not out.

·        The winning team is either the one with the last person standing, or the team with the most people left after the final whistle. In case of a tie, there will be a 1 minute overtime period with each team starting with 1 ball in possession. If after 1 minute no player has been legally hit by a ball, a player of the opposite sex will be added to the court. Play will continue this way until someone is eliminated.

·        It is illegal for a player to stall the game (holding the balls, standing in the corners, not leaving the court immediately after being eliminated.) If a player holds the ball for more than 10 seconds, the ball must be turned over to the opposing team. Throwing the ball against the back wall for its return to your hands is considered stalling the game. If a player does not leave the court immediately after being eliminated, ALL balls in possession will be forfeited to the opposing team.

·        Please respect the referees. Referees may issue warnings to players who displays unsportsmanlike conduct, which includes, but is not limited to:

·        Unnecessary roughness

·        Foul or inappropriate language. (Will not be tolerated)

·        Arguing with officials, players or spectators.

·        Intentional hits above the shoulder.

·        After 2 team warnings, the ball is given to the opposing team.

·        Referees reserve the right to eject players.
