Teach with Power Scholars Academy™: We hire certified teachers to deliver our summer curriculum or to lead enrichment programs during the summer. We hire qualified educators, college-students, and community member experts to support classroom instruction, enrichment activities and scholars’ learning experiences.
Power Scholars Academy™ operates 6½ hours a day, Monday to Friday from June 18 to July 27 with the July 4th holiday off. Staff is expected to commit fully and be available to work the whole 6 weeks. Training prior to program start up is required and will be compensated.
The following positions are available this summer.
- Academic Teacher: Open to Elementary Academic Math and Literacy teachers with current teaching certificate, Middle School Literacy or Math Teachers
- Works 4 days a week – 4 ½ to 5 hours in the mornings.

Power Scholars Academy staff are employees of the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. All staff must have current PA background checks/clearances. All positions are dependent on availability of program funding. Program provision, hiring and student participation is dependent upon available funding.

Childcare: Reading Specialists
Part time, appx. 4 hours a day Monday through Friday, summer 2017 from early June until Friday, August 18th. Pay rate: $13.00 per hour
- Deliver the Imagination Station program activities at all Food and Fun at the Park sites.
- Attend planning meetings.
Requirements: Be 18 years or older. College degree preferred or undergraduate work or experience in education and/or reading. Have a current PA driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Wellness: Personal Trainer
Seeking highly motivated personal trainer(s) willing to work with current clients and obtain new clients. Make your own hours with a highly rewarding job. Open and flexible availability to meet with a wide range of clients is preferred. Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills. Accepting ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NASM, NSCA or YMCA Personal Training Certifications. CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required and can be obtained through the YMCA. Wellness: Group Exercise
We're hiring Group Exercise Instructors with day-time availability. Must be able to work between the hours of 8am and 1pm Monday through Friday. Accepting applications for all classes, not limited to but including: Zumba, Cycling, Yoga, Strength Training, Bodyweight classes, Suspension Training, Balance, Core, etc. CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required and can be obtained through the YMCA. WORK STUDY POSITIONS
It is the responsibility of the student to verify work study eligibility through the college they attend. Once work study is verified and allocated students must request an interview for with the appropriate director for areas of selected interest. YMCA directors will work directly with college administration to schedule those who qualify.
